About
Dr Stuart Miller has been a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine for many years, working within performances sport at the English Institute of Sport in Bath and as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the British Paralympic Association.
Having qualified as a doctor in 1982 from Leeds University, he had a spell in General Practice and musculoskeletal medicine, subsequently moving into Sports Medicine, including a spell as the CMO for the England Karate Team. He became the first GMC formally recognized specialist in Sport and Exercise Medicine in the United Kingdom in 2008.
In 2008, Dr Miller started his long-term relationship with Paralympic sport, leading the medical services at the Beijing Paralympic Games and supporting the organisation until after the Tokyo 2020 Games (held in 2021). In 2012 he was the lead sports doctor for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics before returning to the Paralympic fold as the CMO for the Sochi Winter Paralympics in 2014, the Rio Paralympics in 2016, and prepared and supported the team in the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeong Chang. He was the CMO for the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021, and in addition to the organisation and planning process helped develop a strategy for COVID mitigation strategies, and planned the mental health and wellbeing strategy for the Paralympics GB delegation.
From 2005-2015 he was clinical director of Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Bath, helping develop the course from a paper-based diploma to a fully-fledged distance learning university MSc.

Personal interests
Dr Miller has been involved in sport most of his life as a competitor in swimming, rugby and football and recreationally in tennis and badminton, running, long distance walking and cycling. He took up karate whilst looking after the national team and has also participated in judo.
As well as a career in sports medicine he also plays the guitar and blues harmonica.
