How to book

Once you’ve found the test or scan you want, click ‘Find a hospital’.
Enter your location for the nearest hospital that offers that procedure.
You’ll need a referral from a medical professional before you can book. Once you have one, email it to your chosen hospital’s radiology department and they’ll be in touch to book your appointment and confirm the price. Types of test and scan:

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) scan

An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) scan will help you find out if you have any widening (aortic aneurysm) of your abdominal aorta.

Angiography

An angiography (or cardiac catheterisation) is a test that can detect blockages or narrowing in the coronary arteries.

Bronchoscopy

A bronchoscopy is a procedure to look for any problems inside of your airways (bronchi) and lungs using a thin, flexible instrument with a light on the end called a bronchoscope.

Capsule endoscopy of the small bowel

A capsule endoscopy uses a pill-sized camera to examine your small intestine, an area that's difficult to reach with a standard endoscope, helping diagnose or monitor bowel conditions. Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy is a procedure that uses a thin, flexible tube with a camera to examine the lining of the large bowel, including the colon and rectum. Colposcopy

If your cervical smear test indicates abnormal cells are present your consultant may recommend a colposcopy to examine the cells and tissue in your vagina and cervix.

Electromyography (EMG)

Event monitor

If a normal ECG does not reveal any problems your consultant may recommend measuring your heart activity over 24 hours, 48 hours or 7 days using an event monitor.

Excisional biopsy

An excisional biopsy may be done if a needle biopsy can not be used, or if a needle biopsy does not give a definite result.

Family history screening

Family history screening may be done for a number of reasons including a family history of cancers or heart disease.

Fine needle biopsy

A biopsy is a procedure to remove and examine a sample of tissue from a lump or suspicious area of the body.
