"I’ve had family members who have tested positive for BRCA1 – so it was important for me to get checked out. I went to Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital in July 2014 and saw Anita Bruce, Genetic Counsellor and tested positive. In September 2014 I had a Bilateral Salpingo Oophorectomy (removal of ovaries and tubes) done in London. Pre cancer cells were found, but no further treatment was required. In November 2014 I had a Bilateral Mastectomy and a DIEP flap procedure performed at Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital as a preventative measure. I was under the care of Dr Oakey, Mr Ramakrishnan and Miss Dua.

I was frightened about the operation beforehand as it’s a long time to be unconscious. The reality was better than expected. After the operation, the nursing care was amazing, there are some truly wonderful nurses working at the hospital. Overall I am happy that I had this procedure, I know it’s saving my life and I look forward to seeing the end result in a few months. I have no doubt that I am going to look amazing. I would definitely recommend the procedure to others; it’s the gold standard with the best surgeons. You could not ask for more, given a difficult situation. They made me feel secure and safe and the care was excellent from start to finish. The team were friendly and charming and seemed to work well together. I didn’t expect to have such a good time in a hospital, but the Nuffield Health team made something very difficult a lot easier and I cannot recommend them highly enough."
