Preparing for your Health Assessment

If you have a Health Assessment coming up, there’s a few things you’ll need to do beforehand. Learn more about what to expect before, during, and after your appointment.

Before your assessment

4 weeks before

To get the most out of your Health Assessment, make sure you’ve completed all the pre-appointment instructions below:

This includes making sure you:

  • Complete your online health risk assessment on Trium at least 72 hours before your assessment
  • Select the module(s) of your choice at least 3 working days before your assessment if you’ve booked a Personalised Health Assessment.

Other considerations

  • Make sure the date, time, location, and type of assessment in your confirmation email are correct
  • Know that your appointment may take up to 2 ½–3 hrs dependant on the assessment
  • Arrive 15 minutes or more before your appointment. Being more than 15 minutes late will result in a non-refundable cancellation.

  • If you’re having a PSA blood test...

If you’re a male over 50, we may include a PSA blood test in your Health Assessment package.

If this test is included, please read the PSA blood test leaflet before your assessment and follow the guidance below to help minimise the risk of a false positive result.

Before undertaking a PSA blood test, you must not have:

    • Had a urinary tract infection in the last month
    • Done vigorous exercise in the previous 48 hours
    • Ejaculated in the last 48 hours
    • Undergone a prostate biopsy or surgery in the last six weeks.
  • If you’re having a bowel cancer screening...

A bowel cancer screening is included in some of our Health Assessment packages if you’re over 40.

If you’re eligible, a FIT kit with detailed instructions will be sent to you in the post before your assessment.

In order to have your results available at the time of your Health Assessment, please return your test to us at least five working days before your appointment using the prepaid envelope we attach.

If results aren't available during your assessment, we’ll include them in your Health Assessment report, send them via letter, or have a Health Assessment Doctor communicate them to you if necessary.

If you fail to receive your FIT testing kit, please contact us on 0345 230 2040.

  • If you’re having a smear test...

In our Health Assessments (360, 360+, or female health), we offer dual testing for cervical smears. This means that your sample will be tested for high-risk Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and cytology.

Smear tests will be offered for anyone aged 25 to 49 years, conducted every three years, and for those aged 50 to 64 years, conducted every five years.

If clinically indicated, a smear test will be offered more frequently.

  • 24 hours before

There are a few things you need to do the day before your Health Assessment:

    Fast

If your Health Assessment involves a blood test, we recommend fasting for 8 to 10 hours before your assessment.

If you have a medical condition that prevents you from fasting, please see our FAQs.

    Hydrate

Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Avoid alcohol, fizzy drinks, and other caffeinated beverages.

    Rest

Rest up the day before your Health Assessment if possible.

This will help prevent exercise affecting your urinalysis, body composition, and blood pressure measurements.

    Don’t smoke

Whilst it’s not essential that you avoid smoking or vaping, please be aware that this can impact the results of your Health Assessment.

    During your assessment

When you arrive, you’ll be welcomed at reception before meeting your dedicated Doctor or Physiologist who specialise in Health Assessments.

    Wear comfortable and flexible clothing

Wear comfortable and flexible clothing (loose top/tracksuit/shorts) and trainers as you may need to complete some light exercise during your assessment. Alternatively, you can always bring your exercise clothes with you to change into.

    Adjustments for certain tests

During the Health Assessment, for certain tests to be conducted, your clinician may ask you to adjust or remove certain garments.

Your clinician will explain exactly what is involved in each test and you will always be offered a chaperone during your assessment.

Let us know if there’s anything you can’t do

If we advise there is a medical reason why we cannot carry out a specific test, we will tell you why and lay out what to do next.

Please let us know in advance if there is anything that may affect your ability to take part in any of the tests included in your package.
