Dr Okoye worked as a Consultant in the NHS from 2009 to 2016. He is currently working as a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist in the Brain Injury unit and Locked Autistic Spectrum Disorder unit of Elysium Healthcare, UK.
He has extensive experience in assessing, diagnosing and treating people with depression; bipolar disorder; schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders; anxiety disorders and various phobia-related disorders; obsessive compulsive disorders; eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia); post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD); Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); and Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD); Non-epileptic attack disorders; Chronic fatigue Syndrome, Sleep disorders - amongst other psychiatric disorders.
Dr Okoye’s special areas of special interest are neuropsychiatry, personality disorders and forensic psychiatry.
Dr Okoye has a lot of Medico legal work experience in the form of providing medical or court reports for solicitors, Employers, DVLA, Insurance industry, etc. Dr Okoye is also experienced with respect to providing Expert witness service. His medico legal report writing experience includes advising on matters such as: fitness to plea and stand trial; fitness to be interviewed by the police; advice about clinical-related risk management, prognosis, treatment and hospital disposal, etc.
Dr Okoye enjoys teaching and has extensive experience of teaching, and as an examiner in written and clinical exams of undergraduate’s medical students and psychiatric/General Practitioner trainees.
Dr Okoye’s personal interests include football, music, politics, history and travelling.

Dr Okoye has been involved, as a Principal investigator, in the ‘LABILE’ trial, which entailed investigating the efficacy of Lamotrigine in people with personality disorder.
In 2013, Dr Okoye completed a Systematic Review looking at the link between Non-Epileptic Attack Disorders and Personality disorders (e-Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry. 2014 ;85:e3doi: 10.1136 jnnp-2014-308883.20).
Dr Okoye was a Co-investigator (Collaborator) for the Comparative
Evaluation of Quetiapine – Lamotrigine combination versus Quetiapine
monotherapy (& folic acid v Placebo) in people with Bipolar depression.
