What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that works with people to identify and maximise their ability to move and function. We use a range of skills to provide pain relief, aid healing and rehabilitation for most surgical and medical conditions. Physiotherapy is an appropriate choice of treatment for a wide variety of muscle, joint and nerve conditions.

All our physiotherapists are focused on providing you with the most effective and appropriate treatment, whether you need a short course of treatment or an extended rehabilitation programme. This may require a change in lifestyle and/or continued exercise programme, our physiotherapy team will guide you.

What your local physiotherapy team can provide

Nuffield Health is the largest employer of physiotherapists in the UK outside the NHS. The physiotherapy department within our Tees Hospital consists of an established team of experts with a wealth of experience at your disposal.

Expert physiotherapy care from our clinicians

Our physiotherapists are all experienced clinicians with a wide array of interests and skills. These range from working in Football with a team in the FA Women’s Super League, to diagnosing and treating a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders.

Upper and lower limb

We can offer expertise in upper and lower limb rehabilitation and provide pain management with the use of such modalities as electrotherapy, trigger pointing and acupuncture. We have strong links with many orthopaedic consultants and have an excellent track record in the rehabilitation of upper and lower limb injuries including post-surgery.

We also offer an advanced lower limb rehabilitation class to assist people to get back to sport.

Spinal

For the last 15 years we have led an innovative spinal rehabilitation programme, developed for those with acute or chronic back pain and after spinal surgery. The rehabilitation package includes counselling, education, exercise and relaxation.

Nuffield Health Tees Hospital is home to four widely experienced spinal surgeons who work closely with the Physiotherapy team to offer individual care and excellent outcomes. Please visit our consultant profiles for Mr Daniel Fagan and Mr Raman Kalyan.

Back Fit

The Back Fit programme is our physiotherapy-led 6 week programme designed to help people who have persistent back pain. Linking exercise with mindfulness, relaxation and techniques for managing your back pain, the programme consists of one-to-one consultation and treatments plus small group education and exercise sessions. The aim is to equip patients with knowledge and practical skills to reduce their pain and improve function.

Assessment and 6 week programme costs £200.00.  Please get in touch for programme dates and to book your place.

Katherine Ager Senior Physiotherapist About

Katherine Ager

Senior Physiotherapist

How can I help you improve your health?

I graduated from Brunel University in 2013 and began my career in the NHS in Staffordshire treating patients with a variety of MSK conditions. Following this, I returned to the North East and had the opportunity to complete rotations at James Cook University Hospital working across neuro rehab, spinal rehab, and elderly care. I thoroughly enjoyed working in the hospital environment and at this time I also gained valuable experience within hydrotherapy.

I began working for Nuffield Health Tees in January 2019 and now work as a senior physiotherapist treating orthopaedic and MSK problems. I have completed a variety of courses to support my skills including the Foundation in Acupuncture course, Pain in Pregnancy, and Therapeutic Yoga level 1 and 2.

I have a special interest in yoga as I feel it complements physiotherapy treatment well. Adapted yoga postures and breathing techniques can be used at all stages of rehabilitation and regular practice can also be used to prevent injury.  I currently teach the yoga class at Nuffield Health Tees Hospital and strive to promote that yoga can be for everyone.

My Qualifications

  • BSc in Physiotherapy

Victoria Reynolds Physiotherapy Manager About

Victoria Reynolds

Physiotherapy Manager

How can I help you improve your health?

I graduated from Queen Margaret College in Edinburgh in 1989 and have had a wide and varied career. After completing my rotations I specialised in working with adults and children with learning disabilities and there developed a keen interest in holistic therapy, which has stayed with me in my practise today.

I look at all aspects of a person’s needs including psychological, physical and social which need to be taken into account to see them as a whole to determine a plan of treatment.

After a short career break I joined the Tees team in 2003 working in outpatients and developed my skills with a post grad certificate in musculoskeletal studies and have continued to consolidate my skills with a number of training courses, in such areas as Clinical Pilates, ultimate knee rehabilitation, low light laser therapy and acupuncture to name a few, all allowing me to treat clients with a wide range of injuries and post-operative conditions.

I am also qualified to treat women’s health issues. This includes the assessment and management of continence problems, constipation, ante and post natal problems including pelvic floor re training.

I have been Physiotherapy Manager since 2012 continuing to develop a first class physiotherapy team.
