What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that works with people to identify and maximise their ability to move and function. We use a range of skills to provide pain relief, aid healing and rehabilitation for most surgical and medical conditions. Physiotherapy is an appropriate choice of treatment for a wide variety of muscle, joint and nerve conditions.
All our physiotherapists are focused on providing you with the most effective and appropriate treatment, whether you need a short course of treatment or an extended rehabilitation programme. This may require a change in lifestyle and/or continued exercise programme, our physiotherapy team will guide you.
What your local physiotherapy team can provide
Nuffield Health is the largest employer of physiotherapists in the UK outside the NHS. The physiotherapy department within our Tees Hospital consists of an established team of experts with a wealth of experience at your disposal.
Expert physiotherapy care from our clinicians
Our physiotherapists are all experienced clinicians with a wide array of interests and skills. These range from working in Football with a team in the FA Women’s Super League, to diagnosing and treating a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders.
Upper and lower limb
We can offer expertise in upper and lower limb rehabilitation and provide pain management with the use of such modalities as electrotherapy, trigger pointing and acupuncture. We have strong links with many orthopaedic consultants and have an excellent track record in the rehabilitation of upper and lower limb injuries including post-surgery.
For the last 15 years we have led an innovative spinal rehabilitation programme, developed for those with acute or chronic back pain and after spinal surgery. The rehabilitation package includes counselling, education, exercise and relaxation.
Nuffield Health Tees Hospital is home to four widely experienced spinal surgeons who work closely with the Physiotherapy team to offer individual care and excellent outcomes. Please visit our consultant profiles for Mr Chandra Bhatia, Mr Daniel Fagan, Mr Tai Friesem, Mr Raman Kalyan.
We can offer Pilates classes, suitable for all levels, including people recovering from injuries or on a one to one basis. We offer an advanced lower limb rehabilitation class assisting people to get back to sport.
At Nuffield Health Tees Hospital we have a dedicated women’s health physiotherapy clinic for the assessment and treatment of continence problems, constipation and ante and postnatal problems. Simple advice coupled with exercises for pelvic floor retraining can achieve results with 2 to 6 sessions.
All clients are unique
We recognise that all our clients are unique, which is why we provide a comprehensive range of treatments ranging from a short course to an extended rehabilitation programme - all tailored to your exact needs.
You will receive a consultation with your named physiotherapist, where we will discuss the history of your present symptoms and other relevant information regarding your health, and a physical examination to determine the most appropriate treatment.
All our Physiotherapists are professionally qualified and registered
All members of the Nuffield Health Tees Hospital physiotherapy team are members of the Health & Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). So you can relax knowing you are in the hands of experts.
