About
Mr Virlos is a Colorectal General and Laparoscopic Surgeon, currently practising in the NHS. He is UK Intercollegiate Specialty Board qualified and certified in General Surgery since 2009. He is fully trained in open and laparoscopic general, emergency and colorectal surgery and accredited by UK Joint Advisory Group (JAG) in Gastrointestinal endoscopy. He has competed his higher specialty training in the UK, Australia and Belgium. He is Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and of the European Board of Surgery (accreditation in Coloproctology). He holds hold three postgraduate qualifications, including a Diploma of Imperial College and Master in Surgical Sciences from the Imperial College in London and a Medical Doctorate from the University of Manchester. Since 2009, he has worked as Consultant Surgeon in Greece and UK. He focuses in minimally invasive techniques and aims to provide high quality service in general, laparoscopic and principally in colorectal surgery. His special interest includes colorectal cancer and pelvic surgery as well as proctology and gastrointestinal endoscopy. Mr Virlos has a passion for excellence and provision of highest standards of surgical practice.

Research
Mr Virlos has an
academic background with postgraduate qualifications from Imperial college in
London and University of Manchester. He was qualified from Imperial College in
2000, after completing a year towards a degree of Master in Surgical Sciences.
His thesis was focused in investigating the role of pulmonary nitric oxide synthase isoforms
after intestinal
ischaemia-reperfusion. He then worked towards a Medical Doctorate from Manchester
University, which was awarded in 2009. His research was focused in the role
anti-oxidant supplementation in the outcome
of severe acute pancreatitis and in the role of cell signalling pathways
and central inflammatory pathway inhibition in acute pancreatitis.
