Dr Abrahams sees and treats patients with all chronic pain conditions. His specialist interests are spinal pain (low back, thoracic and neck pain), chronic pelvic pain, cancer pain, radiofrequency neurotomy and pulsed radiofrequency procedures. He offers a wide range of interventional techniques for painful conditions. Most interventions are carried out as day-case procedures under X-ray control, using an image intensifier in order to ensure minimal X-ray exposure to patients. He combines interventions for chronic pain with instruction in pain management techniques, and works closely with specialist physiotherapists and colleagues to offer a comprehensive pain service.
He graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1992. After qualification, he worked in hospitals in Glasgow and Ayrshire, completing early medical training. In 1998 he commenced specialist training in anaesthesia and pain medicine, based in Cambridge and working in hospitals throughout East Anglia. On completion of specialist training, he was appointed a Fellow in Pain Management at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London. He currently works at Addenbrooke's Hospital and the Arthur Rank Hospice, Cambridge.
He was appointed Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, since 2004. He currently is secretary of the Anglian Pain Society.
