Mr Tysome is a Consultant ENT surgeon and is Head of both the ENT Department at Cambridge University Hospitals and the Regional Skull Base Unit. He treats both children and adults with general ENT problems, specialising in hearing and balance issues, sinusitis, Eustachian tube dysfunction, paediatric ENT problems, hearing implantation and skull base surgery. He pioneered introduction of balloon dilatation of the Eustachian tube in the UK and regularly sees patients referred from other ENT surgeons.
Mr Tysome has worked in London, Cambridge and California and has won many academic prizes including the Royal Society of Medicine Otology gold medal. He holds several national positions. He is the Chair of the NHS England clinical group that decides on how specialist ENT services are provided across the NHS. He is also a member of the NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) Interventional Procedures Committee who are responsible for evaluating and recommending operations across the NHS. He is also a member of Council of both the Royal Society of Medicine Otology section and the British Skull Base Society as well as the lead for ENT UK’s e-learning platform.
