Dr Miles Behan

Dr Behan is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiologist providing expert assessment, diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of heart and cardiovascular conditions. He studied Medicine at both St Andrews University and the University of Cambridge before completing a medical research doctorate in Nottingham, investigating the role of blood cells in myocardial infarction (heart attack) and coronary artery disease.

He completed his specialist Cardiology training at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, one of the UK's leading cardiac centres. In 2009, he was awarded the prestigious Cordis International Interventional Cardiology Fellowship, spending a year in Adelaide, Australia, where he gained advanced experience in coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and complex cardiovascular procedures. In 2011, he was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and now runs specialist cardiology clinics at East Lothian Community Hospital, Haddington, Spire Shawfair Park Hospital and Nuffield Health Edinburgh Hospital.

Dr Behan has a particular specialist interest in interventional cardiology, including percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), commonly known as coronary stenting, for the treatment of coronary artery disease and narrowed or blocked heart arteries. He is trained in all aspects of general and interventional cardiology, including the diagnosis and management of heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias), pacemaker implantation and follow-up, heart valve disease, heart failure, hypertension, high cholesterol, and cardiovascular prevention.

He provides comprehensive cardiovascular assessment for patients experiencing symptoms such as chest pain (angina), breathlessness, palpitations, dizziness, syncope (blackouts) and reduced exercise tolerance.
