About
Dr Batley trained in Rheumatology at Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Kings College Hospitals. He has a Master’s degree in Rheumatology and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London.
He is the senior rheumatology consultant at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS trust and runs the NHSE complex rheumatology service and early rheumatoid arthritis service for West Kent.
He runs a large research unit at Maidstone Hospital and is active in observational and interventional trials.

Research
As a registrar he was involved with the ERAS an later ERAN projects, looking at the comorbidities of Rheumatoid arthritis
He has published on RA particularly the use of biologics and subcutaneous methotrexate.
He runs a large research unit and participates in many national and international studies as part of the NIHR research network.
He is the Principal investigator for 18 studies at present at MTW. Current trials include new treatments for Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic arthritis, Lupus and Sjögren’s syndrome. And large observational trials looking at outcomes of treatments in many autoimmune diseases and genetics.
