About

Dr Clayton Qualified from Vilnius University in 1992 and completed postgraduate training in General Medicine and Endocrinology at University Hospital, Vilnius, Lithuania in 1998 and obtained a PhD from Vilnius University with distinction in 2002. Dr Clayton moved to the UK and was appointed to Consultant Physician & Endocrinologist in 2004 having spent 2 years in research at Keele University, Staffordshire. Dr Clayton was awarded FRCP London in 2010 as a result of the excellent teaching and training of junior doctors and undergraduate students.

Since moving to Plymouth in 2015, Dr Clayton was involved in developing services for diabetes (joint foot clinic) as well as general diabetes. Dr Clayton has broad experience in all aspects of endocrinology including thyroid disease, metabolic bone disease, male and female reproductive endocrinology, adrenal dysfunction, and endocrine aspects of obesity including post weight loss surgery. Dr Clayton has developed a ‘transition’ endocrine clinic with paediatricians for children progressing to adulthood.

Dr Clayton is a member of diabetes and neuroendocrine MDT’s and provides regular advice to diabetes specialist nurses and endocrine nurses. Dr Clayton has broad experience in acute general internal medicine from regular work on a short stay ward and is a clinical lead involved in the ‘acute take’ at Derriford Hospital.
