As it stands, our formal agreement to support the NHS continues but immediate capacity pressures from the pandemic are easing and the agreement now allows us to see patients paying for themselves and those with Private Medical Insurance.
To ensure we help as many people as possible, as quickly as possible, we’re extending hospital opening hours and, where we can, increasing the size of our teams, while ensuring that COVID-19 safety measures are strictly adhered to.

update on how we have responded following our last CQC report
Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital’s last CQC inspection was in July 2015.
"We are pleased that the Hospital has been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC across outpatients and diagnostics services, which were found to be well run and safe. Also that the CQC highlighted that surgical services were outstanding for patient care, receiving consistently positive feedback. The inspectors were keen to point out that this rating is not given lightly.
We are however, disappointed with the findings in relation to our surgery and children’s services. We took the difficult decision to cease our inpatient children’s services and focus on providing a high quality outpatients children’s service where children can be seen by many of our Consultant specialists who see children regularly in their NHS practice.
Our Surgical safety processes are embedded and our most recent WHO (World Health Organisation) Safety processes audit showed 100% compliance.
The report shows many good and outstanding practices in our surgical services such as our hip and knee and replacement surgeries which were scored 6th and 19th best in the country respectively in the PROMs (Patient Reported Outcome Measures).
Patient safety and high quality care has always been and always will be our number one priority and we work with highly experienced consultants, physicians and nursing staff. Staff were reported as being responsive, attentive, reassuring, compassionate and professional.
We have worked proactively and positively with the CQC to demonstrate that we have completed all actions from the report and have requested a reinspection to demonstrate that the current CQC rating does not reflect the service now offered by this hospital. We meet with our CQC representative on a regular basis to demonstrate our compliance with the CQC standards and to highlight our high standards and patient feedback.
