About

Born in Aberdare, Tim went to medical school in Cardiff. He qualified in 1993 and trained primarily in South Wales. During his training he took time out to do a formal research degree in cancer genetics and obtained an MD thesis. Prior to his appointment as a hospital consultant he undertook a 1 year fellowship at St Vincent’s hospital in Melbourne, Australia in order to gain specific training in laparoscopic urology.

Tim is a Consultant Urological Surgeon in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant along with 3 other colleagues. As well as “core” urology and diagnostics his sub specialty interests are laparoscopic urology (keyhole surgery) and endourology. As he is part of the multi-disciplinary oncology faculty at his unit he is experienced with all forms of urological malignancies. In addition his research job also involved treating patients with functional bladder problems and he is proficient in urodynamics and the treatment of urinary incontinence.

In addition to his clinical work Tim is actively involved with teaching. He sits on the Specialist Advisory Committee for Urology and is the Liaison Member for Urology in Health Education South West. He is also the Chair of the South Wales Specialist Training Committee for Urology. He is also a Royal College examiner for the Intercollegiate exams in Urology as well as an Honorary Lecturer for Year 3 medical students at Cardiff University. He has set up evening meetings to educate paramedical staff and is also involved with teaching and examining medical students. He has also been available to give speaker meetings for groups of General Practitioners.
