Interrupted or reduced blood supply to your brain means vital oxygen and nutrients are cut off causing your brain cells to die.

It is important to recognise the symptoms of a stroke. The recent NHS FAST campaign* highlighted a quick way to access a stroke victim:

F  Face – has one side of the victim’s face fallen? Can they smile?

A  Arms – can the victim raise both arms and keep them raised?

S  Speech – is the victim’s speech slurred?

T  Time – call 999 if you see any one of these symptoms
