What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a profession whose aim is to encourage and support the return to normal following illness, surgery, disease or trauma. It can be effective in the treatment of a range of muscle, joint and nerve conditions.

Physiotherapists use a wide range of techniques such as manual therapy and exercise prescription to maintain health for people of all ages, helping patients to manage pain and prevent disease.

We can offer expertise in upper limb and hand rehabilitation, pain management programmes and post-surgical recovery. Many of our therapists are also trained in Pilates, Acupuncture and Joint Manipulation, carrying out thorough biomechanical assessments to enhance and optimize function.

We have strong links with many orthopaedic consultants and have an excellent track record in the rehabilitation of upper and lower limb sports injuries. In addition we can offer pre and post natal treatment and advice as well as vertigo and balance rehabilitation with our vestibular specialist.

Deborah Newton-Salam

How can I help you improve your health?

I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2004 after working as a fitness instructor and massage therapist. Since qualifying I have worked within the NHS and privately.

I joined Nuffield Health in 2009 and have continued to work here ever since as a Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapist seeing a huge variety of conditions. The training at Nuffield Health has been second to none and I now use an eclectic range of treatment techniques that have proved very effective in getting results.

I have continued to update my skills over the years and qualified as a Cranial Sacral therapist in 2012. Although this is not a therapy I would use as ordinarily it has provided me with another useful tool in managing MSK conditions. I remain whole heartedly committed to delivering effective manual therapy with a holistic approach.

My Qualifications

  • MCSP AACP Cranio-sacral Therapist
  • BSc Hon Physiotherapy
  • AACP Member

How can I help you improve your health?

I qualified as a physiotherapist from the University of Rome in 2006. I then began my career working in Italy for the regional centre of Cystic Fibrosis, before working as a physiotherapist within the private sector. Since then, I have achieved extensive experience working with patients affected from a broad range of musculoskeletal disorders from sport injuries to work-related and postural conditions. I have also enjoyed carrying out elderly and neurological rehabilitation. More recently, I have specialised in Manual Therapy by completing an MSc at Coventry University in 2016 and an Acupuncture foundation course.

I believe that the variety of experience I have accumulated throughout my career contributed to developing my patient-centred and holistic approach. I like to incorporate a variety of techniques when treating patients, taking into consideration their body and mind as a whole. I also appreciate the importance of tailoring the consultation to the patients’ leisure activities, needs and expectations.
