Palliative care is a medical and nursing specialty that focus on controlling symptoms and providing support for patients and their families with any serious illness. This includes cancer and its treatments which can cause physical symptoms and side effects, as well as impact on emotional and social circumstances. Patients can be referred to palliative care at any stage of cancer and often while receiving cancer treatments such as, chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery.
