About

Mr Stephen Lipscombe is an experienced orthopaedic upper limb surgeon with a dedicated subspecialty interest in hand and wrist surgery.

He provides expert assessment, surgical management, and personalised care for both traumatic injuries and elective hand and wrist conditions at Nuffield Health Chester Hospital, The Grosvenor.

Education

Mr Lipscombe graduated with honours from Liverpool Medical School, following a first‑class degree in physiology at the University of Liverpool, where his academic work focused on calcium signalling in pancreatic acinar cells.

His strong scientific background underpins his evidence‑based and patient‑centred approach to orthopaedic care.

He completed the majority of his orthopaedic training within the Mersey Deanery, before undertaking one of the small number of nationally recognised Advanced Training Fellowships in Hand and Wrist Surgery.

He has also successfully achieved the British Diploma in Hand Surgery, reflecting a high level of specialist expertise in his field.

Stephen is a keen sportsman and the majority of his leisure time is spent training for Olympic-distance triathlon, competing in Chester, Salford and Chirk events each year. 

He lives locally in Chester with his wife Hilary and daughter Anabelle. Chester Zoo is one of their favourite destinations.

He is a member of the Folio Society for book collections and has a season ticket at Manchester United.
