Mr Pavel Akimau

Mr Akimau has been working as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospitals of North Staffordshire NHS Trust since 2021.

Mr Akimau has obtained his primary qualification from Belarus State Medical University. Following his initial orthopaedic career in Belarus, he has embarked on a scientific journey, leading a novel research project, and successfully obtaining a PhD in Medical Science from Osaka University Medical School, - one of the top medical establishments in Japan.

He has always been devoted to Trauma and Orthopaedic  Surgery . Having completed basic surgical training in Manchester and Newcastle, he has successfully secured a place on a highly prestigious Sheffield Trauma and Orthopaedic training programme being awarded a CCT in 2016.

During his training Mr Akimau has developed an avid interest in Foot and Ankle surgery and trauma, and has been exceptionally well trained in nationally and internationally renowned centres of excellence – Sheffield, Oxford and Gloucestershire.

He has published multiple articles in top quality international scientific journals.

As a surgeon he has always been a keen learner and innovator. At the UHNM he has brought in a ground-breaking, reliable and safe mini-invasive surgical technique to successfully address severe hindfoot injuries – one of the most challenging conditions in trauma. Moreover, he has introduced a novel limb saving surgical technique to cure very difficult diabetic foot problems.

Having lived and productively worked in entirely different cultural environments, Mr Akimau has solidified a great personal flexibility, willingness to help, and the ability literally and figuratively to speak others language.

Mr Akimau is the first native Russian speaker fully CCT certified substantive Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in the UK.

He has got a high calibre expertise in full spectrum of elective and traumatic Foot and Ankle conditions as well as general trauma.
