Mr Dimitrios Moschonas is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Royal Surrey Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He is a member of the pelvic Uro-Oncology team and robotic Urology fellowship coordinator in Royal Surrey Hospital
He graduated from the University of Patras, Greece and undertook specialist Urology training in Athens, Greece. He was awarded his PhD degree with Honours from the University of Athens Medical School on “Impact of metabolic disturbances and glycotoxins on male reproductive system”.
Mr Moschonas specialises in Robotic surgery for the treatment of prostate and bladder cancer. His training has enabled him to manage most aspects of male and female general Urology problems, stones and pelvic cancer diagnostics and treatment. He is also treating patients with paediatric foreskin problems.
Currently, Mr Moschonas has introduced the new technique of Rezum treatment for benign prostate hyperplasia at his department. After starting transperineal prostate biopsies under local anaesthetic, he is now offering fusion-guided targeted prostate biopsies aiming to improve prostate cancer diagnostics.
He has widely published in basic science, urological and oncological fields. His current focus is on novel biomarkers in prostate and bladder cancer. He is involved in national trials of robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy.

He was awarded his PhD with honours by Medical School of University of Athens in 2012 on “Impact of metabolic disturbances and glycotoxins on reproductive system of male rats and mice”. His PhD training has offered him insight in basic research and molecular biology techniques. His findings supported simple dietetic intervention to have beneficial effects on metabolic dysfunction of reproductive system before overt manifestations. He has participated through vstious roles in randomised controlled national and international trials assessing medications and approaches in the treatment of prostate and bladder cancer. His current interest is in novel biomarkers in prostate cancer diagnostics and prognostic value.
