Her medical training was undertaken at Oxford University and Imperial College, and she was awarded scholarships at both institutions. She then completed her postgraduate training in teaching hospitals across London, incorporating an international award-winning PhD at Imperial. She has been elected as a Fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians and the European Society of Cardiology, and in 2020 received one of five Women Transforming Leadership Fellowships by the European Society of Cardiology in recognition of her contribution to cardiology internationally.

Research
Dr. Charlotte Manisty is currently Research Lead for British Cardio-Oncology Society and Chair of the International Society of Cardiovascular MRI Cardio-Oncology group. She leads the UK Joint Working Group on MRI for patients with cardiac devices (pacemakers and defibrillators) which has brought together 13 National societies to deliver a four fold increase in MRI provision for patients with these devices. As a result of this work she has been awarded two prestigious national awards - the BMJ and Health Service Journal Awards for Diagnostic Imaging.
Current research interests include optimising imaging and analysis methods using computational techniques for identifying patients at risk of developing cardiotoxicity, and understanding the vascular toxicity of chemotherapy agents. She has also published research recently on the cardiovascular effects of COVID-19 on the heart.
She is regularly invited to speak around the world on both clinical cardiology and research, has received over £4 million funding for her medical research in the past 5 years, supervises several PhD students and is author of over 130 publications and books.
Early in the COVID pandemic she and two colleagues recognised the urgent need for research into mild COVID which affects the majority of patients. They raised £1.6million funding from donations in weeks and founded COVIDsortium – a collaborative research project that has collected over over 50,000 blood samples that have been used by 15 research groups across 12 universities. This has led to many new insights into the disease with results published in top journals including Nature, Science, Lancet, European Heart Journal and Science Immunology as well as informing Uk government SAGE decisions.
