About
Mr Russell is a fully accredited NHS Consultant General Surgeon on the General Medical Council specialist register for General Surgery.
Mr Russell undertook his undergraduate medical studies at St. Andrews University before completing his clinical studies at Cambridge University. His specialist surgical training took place in Cambridge and in his final year of training, he was appointed as the General Surgical Chief Resident at Addenbrooke’s. Mr Russell was appointed as a Consultant General and Transplant Surgeon at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in 2014 and as Clinical Lead for Transplant surgery at Addenbrooke’s in 2018.
Mr Russell has experience in all aspects of general surgery but his main interests in general surgery lie with the treatment of abdominal wall and groin hernias. He performs laparoscopic (keyhole) and open hernia repairs as well as groin hernia repairs under local anaesthetic.
Mr Russell’s transplant work includes kidney, pancreas and
intestinal/multivisceral transplants and he is also the surgical lead for living donor
kidney transplantation at Addenbrooke’s.
Special interests
Mr Russell also has a keen interest in teaching and training and is involved in the teaching of the medical students and junior doctors at Addenbrooke’s. He examines for the Cambridge University exam board and is an Associate Lecturer at Cambridge University Medical School.
