Dr Lucy Howarth

Dr Howarth is a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist at Oxford University NHS foundation trust since 2014. She studied at Southampton University Medical School from 1992-1997, and then went on to begin her paediatric and neonatal medical training at Hammersmith Hospital and Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, London. She undertook a clinical research fellow post in neonatal haematology at Imperial College, London in 1999-2001. Lucy has had extensive training and experience in general paediatrics, neonatal medicine, community paediatrics, paediatric nephrology and paediatric cardiology and worked in numerous hospitals as a junior doctor including: North Hampshire Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital Portsmouth, Princess Anne Hospital, and Southampton University Hospital.

Her training on the National Grid in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition from 2005-2012 was at Southampton University Hospital, Kings College Hospital, Oxford University Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital. She has multiple publications in journals and several text book chapters. She is an active member of the British Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition and is on its endoscopy working group for safety and standards in paediatric endoscopy and leading on a local pilot for a new global rating score. She is actively involved in research in paediatric gastroenterology in large multi-centre research trials, and also enjoys teaching and examining Oxford University undergraduates and postgraduates and mentoring and supervising trainees in general paediatrics and paediatric gastroenterology. Lucy is a founder member of Thames Valley and Oxfordshire Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition clinical network.
