Your thoracic outlet is the space between your collar bone and your first rib. The nerves and blood vessels that serve your arm pass through this area. Since this space is very small any pressure or narrowing in the area may create symptoms in your neck, shoulder, arm or fingertips including:

  • Pain
  • Numbness
  • Tingling
  • Discolouration
  • Weakness in your arm
  • Swelling

Diagnosing thoracic outlet syndrome can be difficult. Your consultant may ask you to move in several ways to confirm what area is causing the symptoms. They will note any swelling and change in colour in your arms or hands. Standard diagnostic tests including x-rayCT scan, or an MRI scan.

Treatment for thoracic outlet syndrome varied depending on the type and severity of your own condition. Our experienced consultants can diagnose and treat thoracic outlet syndrome in a hospital near you.
