Maddie Cavan

Cancer Services Manager

Maddie has over 25 years’ experience in haematology/oncology. She has worked in both the inpatient Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and Haematology/Chemotherapy Outpatient Unit. Maddie was involved in setting up one of the first One Stop Breast Clinics in England.
She has been part of the Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital team for 5 years. Originally as a Senior Oncology Nurse progressing to Cancer Services Manager in this time. Her mission is to ensure all patients attending the Oncology Suite receive gold standard, holistic care and feel supported throughout their treatment and beyond. She is very proud to manage such a knowledgeable, expert and caring team.

Kate Libby

Kate Libby - Oncology Nurse

Kate has over 25 years of experience working in oncology and haematology roles . Her areas of particular interest include pancreatic cancer and melanoma. She enjoys being actively involved in supporting new programme and initiates within the unit and is proud of being part of such a dynamic team

Becki Davies

Becki Davies - Oncology Nurse

Becki has a specialist practice degree in cancer care and her vast experience includes the care of the oncology, haematology, and bone marrow transplant patient and their families, oncology research and the management of a chemotherapy unit. She has a particular interest in head and neck cancer, breast cancer and vascular access which led her to become a finalist as part of an Infection Control Team for the Nursing Times Awards, she also achieved a 2nd place award for Innovation of Patient Care with Health Enterprise East.

Georgie Peacock

Georgie Peacock - Oncology Nurse

Georgie has worked in oncology/haematology for over 20 years, in both the outpatient and inpatient setting. She has a particular interest in lung and upper gastrointestinal cancers and works very closely with the consultant in this speciality. She is currently completing a lung cancer module to further her knowledge. Her holistic and caring approach is always patient focused of the highest standard and she thrives in building trusted relations with her patients, families, and colleagues.

Amanda Penfold

Amanda Penfold - Oncology Nurse

"Mandy qualified as a registered nurse in South Africa 30 years ago. She moved to the United Kingdom in 2017 and converted her training and obtained her Pin in the UK. She has an interested in haematology and oncology and has been part of the Nuffield team for almost a year after working on a haematological day unit for 3 years."

Charlotte Karlsson-Grant

Charlotte Karlsson-Grant - Oncology Nurse

Charlotte has worked within multiple care settings in oncology and haematology including an inpatient ward, outpatient unit and more recently in a community setting, administering both systemic anti-cancer therapies in a mobile chemotherapy unit and in the patient’s home. Her areas of particular interest are breast and colorectal cancer, working closely with consultants and supporting patients and their families holistically, always with a person-centered approach

Sara Helme

Sara Helme - Oncology Nurse

Sara is an oncology nurse who recently joined our team in February 2021.  She has worked in the NHS for the past 12 years in oncology/haematology as a deputy sister and sister and she brings a wealth of experience to the team. Her day-to-day role includes giving chemotherapy and supportive treatments to both oncology and haematology patients and caring holistically for them and their families through their chemotherapy journey. 

Lorraine Walker

Lorraine Walker - Breast Nurse Specialist

Lorraine has previously been a Macmillan breast care nurse consultant and holds an NHS MSc Advanced Practitioner, Ba (Hons) Healthcare qualification. Her role includes supporting patients with a diagnosis of breast cancer both physically and psychologically throughout their treatment modalities and beyond, supporting and empowering patients to make choices regarding their treatment. She also provides specialist knowledge and expertise to colleagues in the Nuffield and wider community. She is an Advanced Practitioner with experience in complex wound care following breast surgery and breast reconstruction, a Clinical Aromatherapist (International Therapy Examinations Council) and a Western Medical Acupuncturist.

Grainne Thomson

Grainne Thomson - Oncology Nurse

Grainne is a Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist, she has 15 years of experience working within haematology, including stem cell transplant. Her role involves working closely with Professor Follows and Dr Crawley, our haematology consultants, in supporting our patients from diagnosis and throughout their cancer pathway, offering specialised advice and managing treatment/disease related toxicities. For our patients she plays a pivotal role as a direct point of contact providing information and support and referring on to other healthcare professionals if the need arises as well as facilitating clinic and out-patient appointments. She works closely with the oncology nurses and other members of the team within the oncology unit by offering them education and expert advice in the treatment and management of our haematology patients.

Esther Schmidheiny

Esther Schmidheiny - Oncology Nurse

Qualifying in Switzerland 14 years ago, Esther has worked predominantly in acute oncology and palliative care in both inpatient and outpatient settings including some managerial experience. She has always enjoyed passing on any knowledge gained and is keen to support patients in attaining the best quality of life during their treatment whilst also supporting their families. Further qualifications include her study in acute oncology and symptom management, as well as a postgraduate certificate in palliative care and advanced communication training.

Sue Hudson

Sue Hudson - Cancer Support Specialist at Maggie’s, Cambridge

Sue’s background is in radiotherapy working as a radiographer and she has over 25 years’ experience working in the NHS. Her role at Maggie’s as a cancer support specialist is to listen and talk things through with patients and families so she can provide appropriate information and support. She is based at the Nuffield 2 days a week and she also works at the Maggie’s centre based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Maggie’s offers 1 to 1 support as well as group support such as stress management, relaxation, exercise and nutrition groups and cancer specific support groups.

Mari Kidd

Mari Kidd - Reflexolgist

Mari has been practicing since 2010, she offers complementary therapies such as foot and facial reflexology to the patients in the oncology department and the Evelyn Ward. She is trained as a holistic practitioner with qualifications from Cambridge and London in holistic/story massage, reflexology, Indian head massage, facial reflexology and chirokinetic therapy.

Andrea Estelle

Andrea Estelle - Oncology Unit Co-ordinator

Andrea joined Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital in 2001 as a ward clerk for the general medical ward. She transferred to the oncology team of only two nurses in 2002 as a part-time co-ordinator. As the oncology unit has grown over the years she now works full time leading the administration team coordinating patient care.

Tinu Sanusi

Tinu Sanusi - Pharmacist

Tinu is a member of the General Pharmaceutical Council and qualified as a pharmacist in 1999 from Kings College London. She has held various general pharmaceutical and clinical roles, caring for patients, advising on medicine use, medicine reconciliation, counselling patients and delivering a total pharmaceutical service with care and safety. She joined the Nuffield in 2013 as Pharmacy Manager & Oncology Pharmacist working as a part of multidisciplinary team of excellent oncologists and specialist nurses.

Shobhna Shah

Shobhna Shah - Pharmacist

Shobhna qualified as a pharmacist in 1978 and pursued her ambition to work in a hospital environment. She has been working at Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital for 20 years, providing an all-round pharmacy service to various departments and she has specialised as an oncology pharmacist. As part of a multidisciplinary team of specialist nurses and oncologists, she supports the team by developing prescribing protocols, advising and contributing her expertise on medication and for medicine related queries.

Shobhna's role entails providing a smooth and seamless associated service for the oncology day unit and oncology inpatients. This includes timely ordering of chemotherapy drugs, counselling and educating patients on the use of their take home medication and supporting them throughout their treatment. She aims to provide a high standard of pharmaceutical care to reward the best outcome for our patients.

Leah Mayes

Leah Mayes - Dietician

Leah qualified as a state registered dietitian in 2003 and has worked mostly in the NHS as an acute hospital dietitian, Leah joined Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital in 2021.

She has worked across many medical and surgical specialities, including haematology and cancer care, offering nutrition support.As part of a multidisciplinary team of specialist nurses and oncologists, the dietitian supports the team by developing feeding protocols, advising and contributing expertise on the evidence and scientific data that may or may not support the diet and helps patients to optimise their nutritional status during their cancer journey and beyond.
