Breast oncology

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK with around 55 900 new cases each year (CRUK). 1in 7 women will be affected by breast cancer in their lifetime (Breast Cancer Now). It commonly affects women over 50, however, women under 50 are being diagnosed too. Breast cancer is rare in men, but it affects approximately 350 men a year and accounts for 1 in 100 cases (CRUK).

Breast reconstruction

A breast reconstruction is an operation to recreate a breast shape after you have had a mastectomy (breast removal). There are two types of breast reduction procedure which include breast reconstruction using implant and breast reconstruction using latissimus dorsi flap.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is the use of chemicals or drugs (cytotoxic agents) to disrupt or stop the growth of cancer cells.

Haemato-oncology

Haemato-oncology includes the diagnosis and treatment of blood cell cancers such as leukaemias, lymphomas and myeloma.

Palliative care is a medical and nursing speciality that focus on controlling symptoms and providing support for patients, and their families with any serious illness.
