• Overview

The uvea is the area of your eye made up of your iris, the choroid (layer of tissue that supports your retina), and your ciliary body (muscles behind the iris). Various conditions cause inflammation in this area. This is called uveitis.

Symptoms of uveitis may include:

  • Painful eye(s)
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Blurred vision
  • Redness in your eye
  • Shadows in your field of vision

There can be many causes for uveitis. Prompt treatment can lessen the chances of permanent problems with your vision.
