About
Dr Sattianayagam graduated from Cambridge University in 1999. His specialist gastroenterology training was in hospitals in London, Surrey and Sussex. In addition to his medical and pharmacology degrees, in 2012 he was awarded a MD doctorate from University College London.
Dr Sattianayagam sees patients with all gastrointestinal, liver and pancreatic problems. He has developed sub-specialty interests in endoscopy and liver disease. He was awarded a British Society of Gastroenterology travelling endoscopy fellowship to the Medical University of South Carolina, USA. Subsequently he completed a one year therapeutic endoscopy fellowship at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
He acquired further tertiary centre liver experience in Melbourne supplementing his previous training in London at the Institute of Liver Studies, King’s College Hospital, London and St George’s Hospital, London.
He is a consultant gastroenterologist, hepatologist and general physician at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (East Surrey and Crawley Hospitals). He is also the British Society of Gastroenterology Clinical Services and Standards representative for the South-East England, as well as the Royal College of Physicians Regional Advisor for the South-East.

Research
Dr. Sattianayagam’s doctorate research resulted in presentations at several international meetings and publication of numerous peer-reviewed papers in highly regarded medical journals. These were in the areas of inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal cancers, endoscopy, hepatology and nutrition.
He has continued his research involvement, with further presentations and publications. He has been a Principal Investigator in multi-centre studies studies of inflammatory bowel disease and liver disease. He is also a reviewer for medical journals.
