About
Simon Harries is a consultant Breast and General Surgeon who has been practising at the Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital since 1996. He is senior Consultant General and lead Breast Surgeon at Warwick Hospital. Simon trained at The Royal Free Hospital in London where he qualified in 1985 and has undertaken surgical training in many of the large teaching hospitals including Royal Marsden, the world renowned cancer hospital and University College Hospital, London.
He undertook a two year research project entitled Interstitial laser photocoagulation of breast cancer culminating in being awarded a Master of Surgery degree from the University of London in 1995. A high point of research was presenting his work at the Royal Society in London and being visiting professor at the University of Toronto, Canada.
Prior to his appointment at Warwick he was Lecturer in surgery at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. In 1997 he was awarded the coveted Ethicon travelling scholarship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England where he spent some time at the world renowned Memorial Slone Kettering hospital in New York.
Simon has treated well over 2000 women with breast cancer and specialises in reconstructive breast surgery.
Simon has collaborated with like-minded colleagues, including Mashuk Khan, a fellow breast surgeon, to help develop The Arden Breast Clinic.

Mr Harries is currently operating on breast cancer patients only. His outpatient clinics remain unchanged.
Personal interests
In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife Jan and family. He also likes fine Bordeaux wines, country and coastal walking and enjoys rugby (watching only these days!) especially seeing Wales win at the Millennium Stadium!

Research
Mr Harries sits on the national council of the Association of Breast Surgery (ABS) at the Royal College of Surgeons as West Midlands representative and has in the past been on the core writing committee of this association involved in writing the national guidelines for the management of breast cancer in the UK (the BASO guidelines). He has been on the editorial panel of the Journal CME-Breast.
Together with colleagues at Warwick he undertakes regular research projects which have been presented at national and international meetings as well as having several publications in scientific journals.
He currently holds the post of Lecturer in Oncoplastic Surgery at the University of East Anglia Master of Surgery course.
