Mr Nicholas Wride

Nicholas Wride has worked for over 10 years as an NHS Consultant Ophthalmologist. He came to the North East originally in 2003 to join the Specialist Training Programme in ophthalmology.

He has an interest in the management of cataract and also patients with glaucoma, another common and potentially serious eye condition. When he had completed his training he worked in London at Moorfields Eye Hospital for almost 2 years on a Glaucoma Fellowship before returning to the North East to work as a Consultant at the Sunderland Eye Infirmary.

He enjoys operating, has an excellent safety record and is regularly asked to manage complex cases. He has an active role in the training of young ophthalmologists.

He has research interests in helping to develop new drugs for the treatment of glaucoma and also works closely with industry to assist in the development of safer surgical equipment to the benefit of patients.
