About

Professor Stephen Scott is a Respiratory Consultant at Nuffield Health Chester Hospital, The Grosvenor, and also works as a Respiratory Consultant at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He also holds posts as honorary clinical lecturer at the University of Chester and honorary lecturer for the University of Liverpool. 

Dr Scott has a special interest in asthma, previously holding the role of Chair of the Specialist Advisory Group for Asthma to the British Thoracic Society and a member of Guideline Development Groups for the NICE national guideline on the management of asthma and also the SIGN / British Thoracic Society guidelines for asthma. He was also the national audit lead for asthma and secretary for the North West Thoracic Society. 

Dr Scott continues to contribute to national work and sits on the British Thoracic Society Standards of Care Committee and is a member of the operational delivery network for the North West Severe Asthma Network. He completed his PhD in asthma at the University of Liverpool and continues his interest in research as the research lead for respiratory medicine at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation. Dr Scott also completed study in Diploma level for Postgraduate Medical Education and is working to complete a Masters degree in this field.

Research

Dr Scott undertook his research in Liverpool completing his PhD Thesis: Benefits of weight loss in obese patients with asthma: mechanical or immunological mechanisms?

During this time he developed knowledge and interests in clinical trial methodology, physiology testing, inflammatory, quality of life measurement and laboratory techniques. On appointment at the Countess of Chester Hospital he has developed and lead the Chester Respiratory Research Unit that undertakes respiratory portfolio research work and also original research currently setting up links with the University of Chester for MSc and PhD projects. He is a PI on a number of ongoing and past trials.
