Profile

Dr Bearcroft was appointed Consultant Radiologist at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge in 1997 where he specialises in Musculoskeletal Radiology.

Diagnostic Imaging:

Dr Bearcroft specialises in musculoskeletal imaging in general, and in imaging of sports injuries and chronic overuse injuries in particular.

Therapeutic Imaging:

He also specialises in image-guided treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and chronic overuse injuries. Using imaging techniques to guide injections ensures that the injected material reaches the intended target, increasing efficacy and potentially reducing the risk of complications. Dr Bearcroft performs ultrasound or fluoroscopic guided therapeutic injections of steroids or of anaesthetic for diagnostic purposes. He also injects hyaluronic acid agents or local anaesthetic into the hip for patients with osteoarthritis and again this is performed under  image guidance and under  local anaesthetic (avoiding the need for a general anaesthetic). In the shoulder specifically he performs hydrodistension for frozen shoulder and barbotage for calcific tendinitis, again under ultrasound guidance and local anaesthetic. All these procedures are performed on an outpatient basis avoiding an inpatient stay.
