He was trained at St Thomas Hospital, London University, undergoing subsequent general paediatric training in Brighton, Vietnam and Bristol. He undertook specialty training in paediatric neurology, at Guy’s Hospital, London, including 3 years undertaking a clinical research project within childhood epilepsies, culminating in a series of publications and MA.
He was appointed as a consultant in paediatric neurology, at Addenbrooke’s Hospital from 2000. He was regional lead within the field from 2002 until 2012. Particular areas of clinical leadership include headaches, epilepsies, faints and funny turns, movement disorders, tuberose sclerosis and microcephaly. He has previously initiated the clinical services in neuromuscular disorders as well as the rehabilitation of children following acute brain injury. He initiated the regional network in paediatric neurology, and consolidated the outreach clinics to the present number of 15.
He has published extensively on childhood epilepsies, and more recent publications in process include those on microcephaly, tuberose sclerosis and intracranial hypertension.
Existing research activities include collaboration in a large series of children undergoing genetic investigation for neurological disorders, intracranial hypertension and intractable epilepsies.
