Dr Marfleet qualified from the Middlesex Hospital, London in 1974 and started to specialise in Gynaecology and Women’s Health in 1976. She became a member of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health in 1993 and was appointed a Fellow of the Faculty in 2005. Dr Marfleet held the position of Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health at Colchester Hospital for 24 years. In 1998, she initiated an NHS clinic at Colchester Hospital for women with complex menopausal problems, including Premature Menopause. Other specialised areas included helping women with Premenstrual Syndrome and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. In 1999, she developed a standalone clinic for insertion of intrauterine devices and systems and introduced a service for specialist implant removals and insertions.
Dr Marfleet was responsible for training Doctors and other health professionals in contraception, coil and implant fittings and in the menopause. She was Deanery Advisor for N E Thames from 2005-2008. She has been an examiner for the Faculty for the Membership exams. Dr Marfleet retired from the NHS in July 2017 but has continued to practise privately as she wanted to be able to help women with these personal and often difficult problems.
