The Hospital’s Medical Society approves grants, made from Nuffield Health resources, in order to advance and ensure clinical safety through consultant attendance at relevant educational conferences and events.
You can choose your own expert consultant who will guide you through your treatment journey, overseeing your complete recovery. We offer a special focus in the areas of orthopaedic surgery, cosmetic surgery, diagnostic imaging and women's health.

How do I get an appointment to see a consultant?In the first instance please contact our Sales and Services team on 0300 131 1422 who will be able to advise you of how to book an appointment. Please note that some consultants/specialities may require a GP referral or diagnostic (e.g. MRI scan) – our advisors will give you this information.

How long would it take me to get an appointment?All private patients will be seen at the next available appointment and at a time that is convenient for you. Our appointments are designed to be flexible around your needs and activities.

Can I see a consultant for an appointment after work or at the weekend?We have appointments in the evenings for some consultants, but do not cover weekends.

Can I choose which consultant I wish to see?Yes, as a private patient you can choose your consultant.

Do you offer treatment for children?We offer outpatient appointments for children from 3-16 years old for some specialties (please check with our advisors 0300 131 1422). We also offer surgical procedures for children 16+ - again, please check with our advisors.

What are your hospital infection rates?Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital is vigorous in its cleaning standards and keeping our hospitals clean and free of MRSA and C.difficule is a top priority. As a result, the risk of infection to patients is very low.

Would my surgery be conducted by a junior doctor?No, our hospital only works with consultants and therefore you can be assured of the highest level of clinical care. Your appointments, surgery and follow ups will be conducted by your consultant.

When can my family visit if I’m an inpatient?Our visiting hours are between 15:00 and 17:00 each day. Your recovery is of paramount importance, and you may find that you are very tired following surgery.

Is there parking available?Yes, there is free parking available (including disabled bays) at the hospital for patients and visitors. Our car parks are manned by our parking attendant.

Is there accommodation nearby where my family can stay?There is a Travellodge within a couple of minutes walking distance. There is also Hearts Together which is hospital guest accommodation for patients, relatives, friends and carers.

I am disabled/require assistance during my visit, who do I need to tell?Please let our staff know your requirements when you contact us. We are happy to make suitable arrangements before your visit. If you need to bring a friend or family member, please let us know and we can make arrangements to accommodate.

Services for patients and visitors with visual impairment
- Braille signage has been installed in the passenger lift and on the disabled lavatory door at reception
- Most of the hospital areas include features recommended by the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB)
- A large button press telephone is available
- Staff will be happy to talk through brochures with you

Services for patients and visitors with hearing impairmentHearing induction loop systems are provided at all of our receptions for the assistance of patients and visitors with hearing impairments.

Services for patients who require assistance with interpretingWe can provide interpreting services, however please inform us prior to your visit so that you can make the necessary arrangements.

Are visitor meals available?We can provide food and beverages for your visitor. Please note that visitors’ meals are chargeable and these will be added to your room account unless you advise otherwise.

Are personal medical loans available?We work with our trust provider Chrysalis Finance who have expertise specifically in medical loans and understand the needs of patients. Loan decisions are made within 2 hours and are subject to finance checks and a confirmed surgery date. Find out more here.
