At Nuffield Health, we make getting a blood test easy and convenient. Our nationwide network of fully accredited laboratories provides fast and reliable results at competitive prices, wherever you're based in the UK. Whether you have a referral from your consultant or GP or prefer to book your own tests directly, we have an option tailored to your needs.

A blood test is a common and essential diagnostic tool that involves taking a sample of blood to be analysed in a laboratory. The results help our clinical experts to assess your health, diagnose conditions, and understand how well certain organs are working.

At Nuffield Health, we offer two convenient pathways for you to have your blood taken by an experienced phlebotomist (a specialist in taking blood samples) and analysed in our fully accredited pathology laboratories.

How can I get a blood test at Nuffield Health?

There are two ways to arrange your blood test with us. Choose the option that best suits your needs.

1. Referral from a Consultant or Private GP at Nuffield Health

If you are seeing a Nuffield Health consultant or Private GP, they may decide that you need a blood test to help with your diagnosis or to monitor a condition. In some cases, you can have your blood sample taken on the same day as your consultation. If that's not possible, we'll arrange an appointment at a convenient time.

2. Self-pay with our Pathology Direct service

Our self-pay Pathology Direct service lets you choose from a range of blood tests to investigate symptoms, confirm conditions, or identify allergies. You don't need a referral from a GP or consultant, and you can book online at your convenience.

CYP Blood Test for children and young people

The CYP Blood Test service at The Manor Hospital, Oxford, is a nurse-led phlebotomy pathway for infants, children, and young people between the ages of 0 and 16. It supports timely, high-quality blood sampling in a child-friendly environment, minimising distress and reducing repeat visits.

The Manor Hospital will aim to offer an appointment for a child within a week, as appropriate.

Blood tests for children and young people are arranged differently from adult blood tests. CYP blood tests cannot be booked online and require a referral from a GP or consultant. Pathology Direct self-pay testing is not available for children or young people under 18 years old.

  • Children (0–16): Blood tests are carried out by experienced phlebotomists trained to work with younger patients. A parent or legal guardian must attend.
  • Young people (16–17): Tests are arranged with a GP or consultant and delivered in an age-appropriate, supportive setting.

Once we receive the GP/Consultant referral, our team will contact you to arrange a convenient appointment. All samples are analysed in our fully accredited pathology laboratories, providing the same high standards of care and accuracy as our adult services. Results are not shared directly with parents, but are sent to a requesting physician.
