About
Dr Frances O’Brien is a highly experienced Consultant Neonatologist at Nuffield Health, specialising in the care of newborn babies and infants.
As a qualified paediatrician, she manages a wide range of medical conditions in babies up to 1 year old, and provides developmental assessments for children up to age 3, with a focus on early child development.
Dr O’Brien studied medicine at the London Hospital Medical College, University of London, and completed her paediatric training in London. She then undertook specialist research (1997–2001), earning an Action Research Fellowship in Neonatology at University College London. She completed Higher Specialist Training in Paediatrics, specialising in neonatology, and has been a Consultant at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since 2009.
She has a strong research interest in perinatal brain injury, prematurity, and neurodevelopmental outcomes, and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Oxford, where she supervises PhD research into neurodevelopmental screening for preterm children.
Dr O’Brien is also President of the British Association for Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Follow-up, reflecting her leadership in this field.
