Mr Robin Calderwood is a consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon working at both the Royal Stoke University Hospital and the County Hospital in Stafford. He is fully trained in general open vascular and endovascular surgery, treating abdominal aortic aneurysmal disease, carotid disease, lower limb peripheral vascular disease and venous disease. He also performs renal access for both peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis using lines and ports and the creation of arteriovenous fistulae.
Appointed a Consultant in 2013 he has developed an interest in venous problems, especially the prevention and treatment of venous ulcers as well as having an interest in leg swelling. He is an expert in minimally invasive treatment for veins as well as the traditional open alternatives. He has introduced minimally invasive venous treatment at the County Hospital in Stafford where it was not previously used and is building on current services to develop a comprehensive ulcer service for the Trust centred on the County Hospital. He uses a wide variety of traditional and minimally invasive techniques treating severe venous disease and ulcers.
Mr Calderwood qualified from Manchester Medical School in 1998 however initially obtained an intercalated pre-clinical honours degree at St. Andrews University and completed his vascular training at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

Comprehensive treatment of venous disease, lower limb ulceration, dialysis access. Lower limb arterial disease and diabetic foot. Open and endovascular aortic surgery. Carotid disease and surgery.
He has an interest in providing comprehensive care for diabetic foot and ulcer patients and he will be developing the ulcer service in the County Hospital Staffordshire.
Robin is married to Sarah and has two children – Sophia and Tom.
Rugby and Cycling are his main hobbies and now he no longer plays he coaches his son and other young boys in Touch Rugby at Wilmslow Rugby Club, he in the process of becoming a qualified coach.
He also skis and has a hope to learn to sail in the next few years.
