About

Dr Ryan is a specialist respiratory physician who treats a wide range of lung conditions and undertakes procedures such as bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), medical thoracoscopy, chest drainage and non-invasive ventilation.

He came to Herefordshire in 1996 to modernise, set up and develop a number of respiratory services. This has included multi-disciplinary teams managing more complex disease, flexible bronchoscopy, EBUS, medical thoracoscopy, intra-pleural chest drainage, non-invasive ventilation and treatment for sleep apnoea (CPAP).

Appointing and supporting talented colleagues has also lead to the development of other local services such as an excellent lung function laboratory and many nurse-led services.

Teamwork is very important and over this time links with Thoracic Surgeons and Transplant Physicians from University Hospital Birmingham and Oncologists from the Cheltenham Oncology Centre have benefitted our patients enormously.

Dr Ryan was born and educated in Windsor. After a year of voluntary work in a TB hospital in Southern Africa he attended Birmingham Medical School qualifying in 1987. Training posts were undertaken throughout the West Midlands, as well as short periods of specialist interventional training in Marseille and Lille.
