Meet our private GP, Dr Andrew Black, who is experienced in all aspects of general medicine and has a variety of special interests to cater for most medical needs. He believes continuity of care and trusted doctor–patient relationships help patients understand and manage their condition.

How much does a private GP appointment cost?

An initial private GP appointment lasts 30 minutes and costs £150.

Follow-up private GP appointments are 20 minutes and cost £125 - these must be booked at the hospital or by calling 01432 262502.

We see patients aged 18 years and over, and you do not need to pre-register with our practice or live locally to attend. We currently offer face-to-face appointments only.

Our private GP service is based at Nuffield Health Hereford Hospital, just half a mile from the city centre. With on‑site diagnostic imaging and tests available at the hospital, you can also be referred quickly to specialist consultants when needed.

  • Do I need to pre-register or live locally?
    No. We welcome all patients, whether for a single appointment or for ongoing care. You do not need to pre-register with us or live locally.
  • Do I need to be registered with an NHS GP?
    No, you do not need to be registered with an NHS GP to book an appointment with one of our Private GPs.
  • Will seeing a private GP affect seeing an NHS GP?
    No. Seeing a private GP does not affect your registration with your NHS GP, and it won’t stop you from using NHS services.
  • Will you contact my NHS GP?
    We will only contact your NHS GP if required. We will inform you before.
  • How long is a standard appointment?
    Our initial private GP appointments are 30 minutes, which is longer than a routine NHS appointment. This gives you the time to discuss your health concerns in detail. Please enquire with our team if you need a longer appointment.

    Follow-up private GP appointments are 20 minutes long.
  • What should I bring to my private GP appointment?
    To make the most of your appointment, please bring:
    • Photo ID (for example, a passport or driving licence).
    • A list of medicines you’re currently taking, including doses (and any supplements or over‑the‑counter remedies).
    • Any relevant medical information, such as previous test results, clinic/hospital letters and scan reports (if applicable).
    If you have them, it can also help to bring your allergy details and a note of any key symptoms and how long you’ve had them.
  • Can you issue prescriptions?
    Yes. Our private GP can issue private prescriptions, which you can take to any pharmacy.
  • Do you see children?
    No, we only see patients aged 18 years and over.
  • What about health insurance?
    Most private health insurance policies do not cover GP consultations. Our service is designed to be self-funding.

    However, if your GP refers you for diagnostic tests or to a specialist, your insurance may cover that part of your care. Please check with your provider.
  • Is there parking available?
    We have a free car park for all patients. This is managed by ParkingEye so please enter your registration at reception upon arrival.
  • I am disabled/require assitance during my visit, who do I need to tell?
    Please let our staff know your requirements when booking your appointment. We are happy to make suitable arrangements before your visit. If you’d like to bring a friend or family member, please feel free to do so.
