Initially from Zimbabwe, Mr Douie attended University in South Africa and qualified in 1989. After a few years in general hospital practice both in an academic and rural setting, he started specialist training in General Surgery again back in Cape Town. He was awarded a Fellowship in General Surgery in 1999 and then for the next three years worked as a Junior Consultant in Cape Town where he was awarded a Masters in Medicine.
He came to the UK to further his colorectal training and took up a post as visiting clinical fellow in colorectal surgery in Edinburgh. Prior to this he spent a few months in Plymouth and returned to a consultant post after this fellowship year in Edinburgh.
Mr Douie deals with all aspects of colorectal disease from diagnosis through to treatment. Although minor perianal conditions and colorectal malignancies make up a large part of his practice he is particularly interested in pelvic floor disorders and Inflammatory bowel disease and has developed a busy practice in Plymouth in these conditions.
