About
Mr Howell qualified in 1992 from King’s College Hospital, London and then trained throughout the Wessex region. He completed a laparoscopic (keyhole) colorectal fellowship prior to his appointment as a consultant in 2004. He has established a laparoscopic (keyhole) colorectal service in the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and introduced an enhanced recovery programme to shorten hospital stay, reduce complications and return patients to normal functioning as quickly as possible. Most of his practice involves the investigation and surgical treatment of benign and malignant colorectal problems e.g. colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, haemorrhoids, fissures, fistulae, prolapse and pilonidal disease. Mr Howell is experienced in colonoscopy as part of investigation or treatment for patients with rectal bleeding, change in bowel habit, family history or other symptoms suggestive of a colorectal problem.
