Bulkamid® Injections at Woking Hospital
- Overview
Bulkamid® is a urethral bulking agent injected into the urethral wall to reduce urinary leakage associated with stress urinary incontinence.
What is Bulkamid®?
Bulkamid® is a smooth, water-based gel injected into the urethral wall at three to four points. This adds volume to narrow the bladder neck.
Narrowing the urethral wall (the tube that carries urine from the bladder), helps prevent leakage during everyday activities.
The gel remains in the body long term without affecting the surrounding tissue.
Preparing for Bulkamid® Injection
You’ll have a full consultation to review your medical history.
Fasting is not required, and you can eat and drink as normal, unless advised otherwise. You may be asked to adjust medications before the procedure.
During the procedure
The procedure is conducted under local anaesthetic so you'll experience minimal discomfort.
The injections take around 10 to 15 minutes to administer and are straightforward.
