Our private GPs at The Holly Hospital are experienced across all aspects of general medicine and have a range of specialist interests, enabling them to manage the majority of health concerns. They take the time to listen and fully understand your needs, supporting you from initial diagnosis through to treatment.

- Consultation, assessment and onward referral for major illness – same day, if needed urgently

- Emergency care or out of hours care - please call NHS 111 or 999
- Chronic condition monitoring and repeat medications, this is best done with your regular NHS GP Practice
- Consultations for those under the age of 18
- Consultations relating to pregnancy problems
- Minor surgery
- Prescriptions for controlled drugs / Schedule 3 controlled drugs
- Repeat prescriptions (except where treatment was initiated by the private GP)
- GP home visiting
- Ear syringing
- Medicals (HGV, taxi, employment, visa)
- Issue of Fit/Sick certificates

How much does a private GP appointment cost?
Standard private GP appointments last 30 minutes and cost £135.
We welcome patients of all ages, and you do not need to pre-register with our practice or live locally to attend. We currently offer face-to-face appointments only.

Do I need to pre-register or live locally?No. We welcome all patients, whether for a single appointment or for ongoing care. You do not need to pre-register with us or live locally.

Do I need to be registered with an NHS GP?No, you do not need to be registered with an NHS GP to book an appointment with one of our Private GPs.

Will seeing a private GP affect seeing an NHS GP?No. Seeing a private GP does not affect your registration with your NHS GP, and it won’t stop you from using NHS services.

Will you contact my NHS GP?We will only contact your NHS GP with your consent.

How long is a standard appointment?Our standard appointments are 30 minutes, which is longer than a routine NHS appointment. This gives you the time to discuss your health concerns in detail.

What should I bring to my private GP appointment?To make the most of your appointment, please bring:
- Photo ID (for example, a passport or driving licence).
- A list of medicines you’re currently taking, including doses (and any supplements or over‑the‑counter remedies).
- Any relevant medical information, such as previous test results, clinic/hospital letters and scan reports (if applicable).

Can you issue prescriptions?Yes. Our GP can issue private prescriptions, which you can take to any pharmacy. For your convenience, we also have an on-site pharmacy at Derby Hospital where you can get your medication immediately.

Do you see children?No, we only see patients aged 18 years and over.

What about health insurance?Most private health insurance policies do not cover GP consultations. Our service is designed to be self-funding. However, if your GP refers you for diagnostic tests or to a specialist, your insurance may cover that part of your care. Please check with your provider.
