Miss Samantha Hunt

Miss Samantha Hunt is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with subspecialty interest in Oculoplastics, Lacrimal and Orbital surgery. She graduated from Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry in 2011, and undertook her ophthalmology specialist training in the Severn region, including a year at Bristol Eye Hospital. She completed a fellowship year of training at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, which particularly specialises in managing facial nerve palsy, also broadening her surgical skills for more common problems, including posterior-approach ptosis repair and endonasal dacroycystorhinostomy DCR surgery. She then worked as a locum consultant in Sheffield for a year before obtaining a consultant position in Bristol Eye Hospital, where she is now the subspecialty lead for oculoplastics, lacrimal and orbital surgery, as well as continuing to perform cataract surgery.

Miss Hunt has a particular interest in medical education and completed a masters in Cardiff, graduating in 2022 with distinction.

She is a committee member of the British Ophthalmological Surveillance Unit which undertakes epidemiological research into rare ophthalmic diseases, and has previously been a trainee representative on the British Oculoplastic Surgical Society committee. She is committed to involvement in research and is the principal investigator in Bristol Eye Hospital for trials evaluating treatment options for patients with thyroid eye disease.
