Alex Perry – Chief Executive Officer

Alex Perry joined Nuffield Health as Chief Executive in September 2024. He brings extensive experience in senior leadership roles within the healthcare sector, including eight years as CEO of Bupa UK Insurance, the UK’s largest health insurer. During his tenure at Bupa, he oversaw record growth in customer numbers and a significant increase in market share, along with the full digital transformation of its service and support offering. 

Before joining Bupa, Alex was a Principal at Marakon Associates, a strategic advisory firm, and held several senior commercial roles at First Choice Holidays. Alex has served on the board of the Association of British Insurers (ABI), and has been a trustee of Bupa’s charitable arm, the Bupa Foundation. 


Alison McCourt CBE ARRC – Chief Clinical and Quality Officer

Alison McCourt joined the Executive Team as Chief Clinical and Quality Officer in October 2024, having previously served as Clinical Services Director. She is responsible for ensuring the Charity maintains the highest levels of quality across our clinical services.

Prior to joining Nuffield Health, Alison served as a senior nurse in the Army for 34 years, where she became the first nurse and the first woman to command the Army’s Medical Brigade. During her time in the Army, she also managed a hospital in Sierra Leone during the Ebola pandemic, led a strategic review of Army Nursing, and was seconded to NHS England as Deputy Chief Operating Officer during the Covid-19 pandemic.


Mr Arthur Stephen – Chief Medical Officer

Arthur joined the Executive Team as Chief Medical Officer in September 2024, bringing with him more than 20 years’ experience working as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, to lead the Charity’s medical practice. A highly respected surgeon, Arthur has held a practice in our hospitals for 20 years and is an integral part of our medical team.

In addition to his role at Nuffield Health, he was elected as a trustee of the British Orthopaedic Association and spent 10 years in clinical management at the University Hospitals of Derby & Burton. During the merger of these two trusts, he was the Executive Medical Director and, following the merger, continued to serve as Head of Surgical Services and Deputy Medical Director, to allow him to continue with a clinical practice.


Chris Gowland – Chief Commercial Officer

As Chief Commercial Officer, Chris is responsible for ensuring the Charity delivers a leading patient and customer experience, along with strong trading performance across its health and wellbeing services.

Prior to joining Nuffield Health, Chris spent most of his career with Lloyds Banking Group (LBG), most recently serving as their Chief Customer Officer, overseeing customer experience and marketing. He previously held a wide range of roles, including leading the mortgage business, managing customer-facing teams serving 30 million customers, and as commercial director for the Retail Bank. Chris also served a non-executive director for Scottish Widows Bank, Black Horse, C&G and TMB.


Iben Thomson – Chief Legal & Governance Officer

Iben is responsible for upholding the highest levels of legal compliance and governance across Nuffield Health.

Having joined the Charity in 2013, Iben became General Counsel and Company Secretary in November 2022, leading a legal team of corporate, commercial, employment, healthcare and litigation lawyers, as well as overseeing Data Protection and Information Security. She serves on the Executive Committee and all board committees, managing various transactional, governance, and regulatory matters. As a qualified data protection practitioner, she also acts as the Charity’s Data Protection Officer.


Jacqs Harper – Chief Digital Information Officer

Jacqs Harper is the Chief Digital Information Officer at Nuffield Health. She has over 20 years of experience leading customer and commercially focused teams, and has a strong background in digital transformation, digital strategy, leadership, and strategy development. Jacqs is passionate about developing outstanding people capability and has received recognition at multiple industry awards including the UK Digital Experience Awards.

Prior to her current role at Nuffield Health, Jacqs held various positions, including serving as the Director of Digital and Customer Services at Three UK, one of the UK's largest telecommunications companies. She has also served as the Chief Customer Officer (Interim) at RSPCA, the world’s oldest animal charity. Jacqs continues to operate as Non-Executive Director at The Dispute Service.


Kathryn Pritchard – Chief People Officer

Kathryn oversees all people operations for Nuffield Health, including development, resourcing, employee relations and organisational design.

She brings extensive experience of people leadership and business transformation in multi-site, complex consumer businesses. Having initially trained and worked as a teacher, Kathryn built her career in human resources and change management. Before joining Nuffield Health Kathryn undertook complex Chief People Officer roles at Nord Anglia Education and Odeon Cinemas, and successfully led significant business change and transformation.


Matthew Lynn – Chief Financial Officer

Matthew Lynn took up the role of Chief Financial Officer on an interim basis in December 2022, before being appointed permanently in April 2023. In this role, he leads the Charity’s finance, strategy, property, procurement, data and risk teams.

A qualified accountant with 18 years of post-qualification experience, Matthew specialises in financial leadership within healthcare and not-for-profit organisations. Before joining Nuffield Health, Matthew was a senior director in the Government and Health Industries team at PwC.


David Beresford – Interim Chief Operating Officer – Hospitals

David joined the Nuffield Health Executive Team in August 2024. As Interim Chief Operating Officer for Hospitals, he is responsible for overseeing all operations across the Charity’s network of 36 hospitals.

He brings extensive experience in senior leadership roles across B2B services, strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and business development gained during his time in leading brands, including Accenture, Serco and Equiniti.


Gurpreet Gujral - Interim Chief Operating Officer – Fitness & Wellbeing

Gurpreet leads the business operations of our fitness and wellbeing centres, each committed to improving the health, fitness, and wellbeing of our members.

He brings extensive experience in leading large teams, having spent over two decades in global customer service roles across healthcare, retail, telecommunications, and the hospitality sector. Prior to joining Nuffield Health, he worked for Cazoo, IKEA, and Three.

At IKEA and Three, he led the delivery and transformation of customer services across various channels, digitising the customer experience. During his time there, both organisations won several industry and customer awards.
