If your GP has diagnosed a hearing problem you will be referred for a hearing test and hearing aid fitting if needed. Our Audiological experts can quickly assess your needs and fit you with an the right hearing aid for you.
At The Holly Hospital, we provide a comprehensive service starting with an assessment to identify the level of hearing loss. Following an assessment of your lifestyle and communication needs our specialist will then make recommendations on suitable hearing aid options for you, with a report for you to discuss with family members before proceeding with the hearing aid fitting.
We offer the latest technology, with full aftercare services for all packages. The latest wireless accessories are available with premium hearing aids suitable for people with busy lifestyles as well as starter packages and invisible hearing aids.
Do I need a hearing aid?
A full hearing aid assessment will identify the need for hearing aids and whether it's the right time to try them. If you are having difficulty hearing with groups of people it is likely you have a level of hearing loss that may be improved when using hearing aids.
How do I get referred for an assessment?
You do not require a GP referral and can self-refer for an appointment by calling 020 8396 1201.
Which hearing aid would be best for me?
There are a range of hearing aids available with varying technology levels and sizes. They are chosen depending on individual listening needs and the severity of the hearing loss. There will be a hearing aid available to suit everyone.
What aftercare is provided with purchases?
Complete aftercare is provided with every purchase. Initially, a number of follow-up appointments are provided to adjust and optimise the hearing aid setting, as necessary. A two or five year warranty (depending on the package) is included as well as batteries for the first year.

Do I need to see my GP before I can get a hearing aid?
Yes, in most areas your GP is the first point of contact. They'll assess your symptoms and refer you to audiology, or to ENT if that's more appropriate for your situation.

Will I be seen at a hospital or by a community provider?
This depends on your age and the type of hearing loss. Adults aged 55 or over with typical, gradual age-related hearing loss are usually cared for by a community provider, while hospital audiology departments focus on more complex hearing or balance problems.

Why do my ears need to be free of wax before my appointment?
A build-up of wax can block the ear canal and stop an accurate hearing test or fitting from being carried out. If your ears are blocked, you may be advised to use olive oil drops or see your GP before your appointment.

What happens if a hearing aid doesn't help me?
If your test results suggest a hearing aid wouldn't be of much benefit, or you decide not to go ahead with one, your audiologist will discuss alternative options with you instead.

What if my hearing aid breaks or gets lost?
Most services offer repairs, sometimes through the post, and batteries are provided free. Replacement charges can apply if a hearing aid is lost.

When should I get urgent advice about my hearing?
Seek urgent medical attention if your hearing changes suddenly, one ear is significantly worse than the other, you have pain, swelling or discharge from your ear, or you notice bothersome tinnitus, especially if it's louder in one ear.
