Respiratory medicine is concerned with the organs and tissues associated with breathing including the nasal passages, trachea, pharynx, larynx, lungs and bronchi. These organs are responsible for carrying oxygen from the air to the blood and expelling carbon dioxide.
We offer regular outpatient clinics with Consultant Respiratory Physicians to assess and treat a full range of respiratory conditions including:
- Asthma
- Chronic cough
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Emphysema
- Sleep apnoea (snoring and breathing difficulties during sleep)
- Bronchoscopy
- Respiratory virus screen.
Our consultants have access to a range of specialist services including biopsies, blood tests, lung function tests, ECG, x-ray and other tests to aid diagnosis.
You will usually need to be referred to see a hospital consultant by a GP or other healthcare professional. Speak to your GP and ask them to refer you to Hereford Hospital.
