• Overview

Thrombotic disorders occur when your blood clots in your veins, restricting or cutting off the flow of blood.

If the clot dislodges there is a danger of it traveling to the lungs blocking the blood supply there (pulmonary embolism) and causing breathing problems.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is an example of a thrombotic disorder.

Treatment for thorombotic disorders varies according to your own diagnosis. Your consultant may prescribe medication or ask you to wear compression stockings to increase circulation. Be sure and discuss your own situation with your consultant.
