Specialty interests are cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, rhinoplasty & cosmetic face and neck surgery, tummy tucks and reconstructive microsurgery.

Professor Malata underwent general surgical training on the Newcastle and Leeds University Hospital Rotations. He started training in plastic surgery in the Leeds and Newcastle units before joining the prestigious West of Scotland training programme in Glasgow, qualifying in 1997. He then undertook full-time superspecialty training in cosmetic and breast surgery in the USA for about two years (1998 to 1999) at Georgetown University Medical Center (Washington DC), Surburban Hospital (Bethesda, Maryland) and Emory University Hospital (Atlanta, Georgia). He is the most senior reconstructive breast surgeon at the Cambridge Breast Unit and has been voted by his peers nationally as one of the top 10 breast plastic surgeons in the UK. He was appointed Visiting Professor of Academic Plastic Surgery in the Postgraduate Medical Institute (now School of Medicine) at Anglia Ruskin University in 2013.

Professor Malata’s research has resulted in more than 160 peer-reviewed publications in the international medical literature and over 200 national and international presentations on cosmetic surgery, breast surgery and microvascular free flap surgery (Conference Papers). He also served as President of th European Society for Surgical Research (ESSR) from 2011 -2013.
